On Wednesday 23 in the morning, the sessions of lectures explore the origin of the urban
phenomenon in the Mediterranean and describe the mark left by the classical world. Therefore,
in the afternoon, the roundtable can attempt a definition of the city and region binomial in the
Mediterranean, understanding that the foundations of Mediterranean societies rest upon this.
This leads to the current challenges covered by the final presentation.

On Thursday 24 in the morning, the sessions of lectures explore the medieval and modern
Mediterranean city and define its legacy in all aspects. Therefore, in the afternoon, the roundtable
can approach the meaning of the Mediterranean as a regional unit throughout history. Assessing
heritage becomes a historical contribution and a real challenge for the identity and social promotion
of the current Mediterranean cities, as addressed in the final presentation.
